Morpeth lost to Tynedale 4 tries to 2. Not a terrible result for them

Final Score:

Mowden Park 64-5 West Hartlepool

I think Durham should follow Northumberland and only let National 1/2 sides play their 2nd XVs in the Senior cup...

Well done Mowden though

County Championships are back again. North in the top competiton. I think Durham are in the 2nd tier with Cumbria.

Quote
The 2017 Men’s County Championships sees 28 counties compete with each side being seeded using results from the previous three seasons.

Each team is divided into three tiers with 12 in Tier One, 8 in Tier Two, and 8 in Tier Three.

All tiers will play a minimum of three matches and a maximum of four. This will produce three finals, all to be played at Twickenham.

Promotion and relegation will now take place every two seasons with points accumulated from season one continuing into the following season.

This means counties will have the chance to cement their position in the most appropriate pool and avoid situations where the same teams are being promoted one year only to be relegated the next.

NORTHUMBERLAND:

Come on this used to be the best board on the forum! It's all quiet on the western front these days! It's your last predictions for nearly 5 months!

Ashington v Whitby. Ash to pip it with home advantage
Blyth v Redcar. Redcar to finish a great season in style.
Darlington v Whitley Bay Rockcliff. Rock HAVE to win and win big for any hope to go up.
Ponteland v Seaton Carew. Pont to cap off a successful season with a victory here. Seaton Carew will have to regroup next year.
Sedgefield v Bishop Auckland. Sedge to finish the season showing they do deserve to be in the league!
Sunderland v North Shields. Clsoe game but Sunderland by 7
Winlaton Vulcans v South Shields. Winlaton will be pushing for a comfortable 9th placed finish

This might keep the forum ever so slightly used over the summer!

My prediction is a Tory landslide of over 100+ seats. There's no way Lib Dems and Labour will agree on a coalition to only pick one candidate per constituency (although they should!)

Thoughts?

Durham & Northumberland Two / Northumberland Senior Plate Final 2017
« on: April 11, 2017, 02:46:48 PM »
Ponteland v Rockcliff 4pm at Novos, Easter Saturday.

Pont have reached the final for three years in a row; winning in 2015 and losing it last year.

Rock last reached it in 2012 when they lost to Medicals. Both sides have beaten each other one a piece this season.

Will Pont win the plate and promotion within a week to cap off a great season? Or can Rock spoil the party?

I'm going to go for a Rock win by 3 points

It's a N1E final again this year. Current holders Morpeth take on close rivals Alnwick.

Alnwick have only won the trophy once before when they beat the mighty Gosforth back in 1984. Can this Saturday be the their day? They've already beaten 'Peth twice this season so my money will be on them.

A great interview with Tom Richards and Richie Geldson discussing how they've helped keep England's "most remote club" going.

I'm sure plenty of people have good stories to tell about playing away to Border Park

April Fools! I apologise to you all!

I've had some wonderful emails in the time the forum hasn't been live. Thanks to all those well-wishers.

I assure you all, I'll never really shut this place down.

Good luck to all teams today!  :D :D

Seeing as we have one for the relegation spot for DN1 (3 teams in the running).

It seems apt to have one for the 3 teams gunning for promotion - guaranteed with a title, 2nd place are looking like they will play West Leeds.

It's all Barnard Castle's to lose now as they sneak to the top of the table (beating Heed by just 1 point!) with a game in hand.

Barnard Castle   19   16   0   3   545   281   +264   77
Northern           20   15   1   4   802   349   +453   76
Westoe           20   14   0   6   583   293   +290   75

Northern have by far the best points difference, could that come in handy by the end of the season? Or will Bernie's game in hand be enough to see them through?

Bernie:                         Northern:                     Westoe:

Horden (A)                Stockton (H)                  Consett (A)
Northern (H)             Barnard Castle (A)          Ryton (H)
Consett (A)
Novos (A)                 Gateshead (H)                Medicals (A)
Ryton (H)                  Gosforth (A)                  Stockton (H)
Stockton (A)            Hartlepool (H)                 M'Boro (A)
Westoe (H)               Consett (A)                    Barnard Castle (A)

Barnie have to play both Northern and Westoe, but luckily they're both at home. Lose either of them then it gets interesting. Consett could be the King makers as they play each team.

I'd say Westoe have the toughest fixtures with only 2 home games and they will finish 3rd.
Northern will finish second 2 points behind Barnie.

Let's see how it goes after this week...

Merit Leagues / Northumberland Cups 2017

This coming weekend sees ALL Northumberland cup fixtures taking place on the same weekend. This is to make sure there's no loading in lower teams when games are played on different weekends. Definitely a step in the right direction in my opinion. Seghill and Prudhoe 1st XVs are also taking part.

Anyway! Here's the draw:

Senior Shield:
Morpeth 2 v Medicals 2
Northern 2 v Seghill 1st XV
Tynedale 3 v Alnwick 2
Novos 2 v Percy Park 2

Junior Cup:
Gosforth 2 v Novos 3
Ponteland 2 v Morpeth 3
Percy Park 3 v Northern 3
Alnwick 3 v Prudhoe & Stocksfield 1st XV

Junior Shield:
Rockcliff 2 v Medicals 3
Blyth 2 v Ashington 2
Morpeth 4 v West End
Berwick 2 v North Shields 2

Junior Trophy:
Blyth 3 v Tynedale Vets
Gosforth 3 v Winner of Seghill 2 v Rockcliff 3
North Shields 3 v Novos 4
Ponteland 3 v Ashington 3

There's been hardly any chat in here recently - unfortunate as this is usually the most used site on the forum.

Anyway:

Ashington 14-18 Darlington. Darlo to just pip this one
North Shields 23-15 Bishop Auckland. I can see Shields getting a good win at home
Sedgefield 10-30 Whitley Bay Rockcliff. Rock gunning for promotion
South Shields 24-12 Seaton Carew. South Shields to add misery to Carew. Although if Carew pull of a shock it makes things very interesting
Sunderland 9-22 Ponteland Pont to win - too much to lose.
Whitby 15-12 Redcar. I big curveball but I can see Whitby providing a shock
Winlaton Vulcans 21-23 Blyth. Come on Blyth, get yourself out of trouble!

Will Scotland be the surprise package this year?

Will the bonus points make any difference? 60 mins into the Italy game with Wales winning from 4 penalty kicks would suggest not!
