Durham & Northumberland One / Forum Costs
« on: February 10, 2020, 09:54:53 PM »
To all active members and viewers of the forum.

It is wonderful to see the active debate on here. Iíd never have envisaged 6 years ago that we would have over 1000 registered members and over 25,000 posts about rugby in the North East. I originally set this up as nobody knew what was going on with the level transfer situation (how things havenít changed eh...?)

For the first few years I paid for the forum upkeep myself and last year another member kindly paid for the forum. Unfortunately, my friend who runs the forum for me canít do it for free.

Hosting the website with no adverts (which Iím sure we agree is great) costs £10 a month and including monthly updates/security/backups/etc. Additionally the domain name is also a cost.

Iím normally happy to pay all of this but to keep the website running will cost £140 this year  and I currently canít justify this price on my own. Unfortunately, at some stage the website will be closed down. To stop that happening I thought it best to ask for help!

If anyone is happy to help out or sponsor the website (if itís a company it could be added to the forum header) please drop me a private message.

All the best,

P.S. Keep posting! Even you lurkers out there, why not sign up and start posting so we can continue to grow and keep the debate alive and well.

May as well have a thread on this seeing as one of them will be getting promoted into this league.

At the moment it looks like Cockermouth, Wigton or Whitehaven.

I played at Wigton as a Colt - a great club and not too far away on a bus if my memory serves.

Help / Bots!!!

Iím sure the regulars amongst you will have noticed a severe increase in computer bots posting absolute nonsense on here.

To combat this I have increased the challenge of registering on the forum. I hope this works...

Old Rugby Players Never Die ...

Two 90 year old men, Mike and Joe, have been friends all of their lives. When it's clear that Joe is dying, Mike visits him every day.
One day Mike says, "Joe, we both loved rugby all our lives, and we played rugby on Saturdays together for so many years. Please do me one favour, when you get to Heaven, somehow you must let me know if there's rugby there."
Joe looks up at Mike from his death bed, "Mike, you've been my best friend for many years. If it's at all possible, I'll do this favour for you."
Shortly after that, Joe passes on.
At midnight a couple of nights later, Mike is awakened from a sound sleep by a blinding flash of white light and a voice calling out to him, "Mike -- Mike."
"Who is it?" asks Mike sitting up suddenly. "Who is it?"
"Mike--it's me, Joe."
"You're not Joe. Joe just died."
"I'm telling you, it's me, Joe," insists the voice."
"Joe! Where are you?"
"In heaven," replies Joe. "I have some really good news and a little bad news."
"Tell me the good news first," says Mike.
"The good news," Joe says, "is that there IS rugby in heaven.
Better yet, all of our old friends who died before us are here, too.
Better even than that, we're all young again.
Better still, it's always spring time and it never rains or snows.
And, best of all, we can play rugby all we want, and we never get tired."
"That's fantastic," says Mike. "It's beyond my wildest dreams!
So what's the bad news?"

"You're in the team for this Saturday."

Other Senior Rugby / Tynedale - MRSA Scare
« on: September 28, 2018, 09:48:12 AM »
From club website:

One of our 1st XV players has this week been confirmed to have contracted MRSA. Several other team members are currently awaiting the result of tests having also suffered from infected cuts and grazes following a recent match. The club is in regular and ongoing contact over the situation with both the National Clubs Association (NCA) and Rugby Football Union (RFU), who are liaising with Public Health England.

This type of infection can be serious in a hospital setting but is readily treatable in normal healthy adults. However it is contagious, and may be spread via close physical contact. Tynedale RFC is therefore taking all precautions to avoid further contagion, including postponement of all Senior rugby fixtures this coming weekend. Following communications today, the NCA fully support the decision to postpone the National League Two fixture at Chester this Saturday.

All junior rugby should be able to continue as normal this weekend, as the relevant health authorities have no concerns about the wider club community.

It looks like some Lancashire clubs are going to leave the RFU structure. Fair play to them!

Durham & Northumberland Two / Advantage Whitby?
« on: April 29, 2018, 10:20:17 AM »
Surprising defeat for Rockcliff yesterday. Itís now Whitbyís to lose...

North Shields have had a great season and after beating Medicals in the semi final they take on Novos in the plate final. Morpeth 7:45 KO on Wednesday if anyone is interested.

Durham & Northumberland One / Goodbye Gosforth
« on: April 22, 2018, 09:56:10 AM »
More or less nailed on that Gosforth will lose to Westoe. Very sad to see a club like Gosforth relegated to DN2. Hopefully theyíll bounce back

Durham & Northumberland One / Dreaded League Reshuffles.
« on: April 15, 2018, 11:41:22 AM »
Well it looks nigh on certain that West Hartlepool, Percy Park and Northern will be relegated into DN1. West and Northern are officially relegated.

It is a sad state of affairs for North East rugby. North One East might only have two DN clubs (Morpeth and probably Durham City) in the league next season as Alnwick look certain to go up and weíre not certain if a DN club will win the play off!

If DN do  lose the play off, there will be a league imbalance of two teams. So what do we think will happen? It seems likely that Guisborough will be level transferred, but weíll still have an imbalance of one. Iíd assume that thereíll be 3 clubs relegated into DN2...

Whatís your thoughts?

Durham & Northumberland One / Weíre Back!
« on: April 10, 2018, 06:22:06 PM »
I would like to say thank you to all the kind messages from those that wanted this place back up and running. Itís been tough to get back up due to a number of reasons. However, those kind messages made us realise it was worth our while to get this forum back up!

However, Iíd really like to thank Trotty, from Consett RFC. He has kindly offered to pay for the running of this website (which due to personal reasons I could no longer manage). Without him, this place really would be dead and buried.

Letís keep this place going, and letís make it worth everyoneís while. So letís keep posting and keep the chat clean and friendly. After all, rugby is the best game in the world!

Thanks again,
