Durham & Northumberland One / Who'll Finish Top 2?
« on: January 05, 2014, 12:14:40 PM »
I know I kind of already did this thread but by doing a poll it means any member can vote without them commenting as some of our 188 members are a bit infrequent at commenting! Perhaps this will coax some of them out to vote and chuck the odd post in ;D

You can vote for two clubs who you'll think will finish in the top 2 between the current top 5.

Only 7 points separates 1st from 5th so I think it'll be an interesting poll and an interesting run in to the end of the season.

Current standings:

Team             P    W    D    L    F    A    Diff    B      Pts
Horden            15    12    1    2    568    253    315    12    62
Blyth                    15    12    0    3    367    296    71    9    57
Durham City    15    11    0    4    448    289    159    12    56
Guisborough    15    11    0    4    383    275    108    12    56
Darlington    15    10    1    4    463    307    156    13    55

Other Senior Rugby / Your Club's Greatest Result?
« on: January 01, 2014, 06:02:00 PM »
Seeing as it's New Year's Day I thought I'd stick Novos' greatest result on here...from 25 years ago, in 1989.  :o

A 6-10 victory away to Gosforth, who of course went onto become the Newcastle Falcons just a few years later.

January 1st 1989. Gosforth 6-10 Novos. 25 years ago today, Novos recorded a famous victory over Gosforth (now Newcastle Falcons)

Back when rugby wasn't a professional sport and the Newcastle Falcons hadn't yet been magicked up by Newcastle United Owner Sir John Hall the match to look forward to each season was Gosforth on New Year’s Day.

It normally produced a spirited performance from Novos but invariably ended in defeat. However, Novos won in 1988, and were to do so again in 1989, in front of a large crowd at the Great North Road ground.

Gosforth led 3-0 from a penalty, Alan Hedley's report then reads "Three minutes later, Novos were in front. Gosforth squandered possession yet again in the Novos 22 and broke away. Mark Christopher was halted on the half way but Novos won the ball again and Howes fended off Derek Briggs and Rob Coulson to score in the corner with a powerful run from the 22 metre line.

"Rab Mudie missed another penalty kick at goal and just after the half hour, Novos scored a superb try".

"Pollock ran across the field and flipped the ball to Mudie who juggled with it twice before hanging on and then putting in a terrific scissors pass to skipper Graham Ward, who weaved his way to the line for a great try which Mudie converted."

Although Gosforth came back strongly in the second half, "...there was no way the Novos tackling was going to allow them to find a way through."

The result even made its way on to teletext (remember that?) among other results including Gloucester and Rosslyn Park.

Team:
R Mudie, G Ward, M Christopher, S Johnston, S Howes, J Pollock, J Stoddart; P Brantingham, P Farrier (replacement D Reeve), I Bell, N Morrison, C Homan, T Ward, A Marwick, R Millbank

Durham & Northumberland Three / To Newcomers Reading Threads...
« on: December 31, 2013, 11:58:37 AM »
...Just sign up and get posting!

I know there's a fair few of you who come on to read the forum (which is great). But why not sign up and post on anything and everything?!

To our current posters lets try to use all sections of the forum like in 'Other Senior Rugby' and 'Chat'.

I never thought we'd have 182 members when I first started this forum back in August, but lets see if we can keep building and be THE place to chat about rugby in the North East of England  ;D

Much Love and Happy New Year!

Anybody see the game the other day?

They really do seem to be struggling to score points at the minute, but well done for getting that last minute losing bonus point  :)

How did you come across the forum?

Is the layout etc. okay?

How can we as a forum get more members? (The Yorkshire forum for example has nearly 1000 members and there are regular posts)

Is there anything I can do to make it better?

General thoughts?

Merit Leagues / DMP Start Strong
« on: October 16, 2013, 03:02:18 PM »
Seeing as nobody is posting in the Merit League section I thought I'd get the ball rolling!

DMP finished second bottom last year in CANDY 1.

What's going on? 6 from 6!

Has anybody played them?
