1981 - Domestic Super League!
« on: January 17, 2017, 09:33:53 PM »
A fascinating photograph from Rugby World's 'Donestic Super League' in December 1981. Quite a few DN clubs in their table. Rugby has changed just a little bit since then...

Wakefield have gone, several others have merged, Halifax and Orrell both went bust and then re-appeared at the bottom of the league structure. Lancs and Cheshire 1 (equivalent of D and N 1) currently have LSH, Broughton Park, Manchester and New Brighton in their ranks. Manchester possibly had one of the most spectacular falls, with several seasons of regular 3 figure scores against them.

Sad to read. Of course Headingley merged with Roundhay to create Leeds (now Yorkshire Carnegie).

Perhaps most interesting is Saracens, near the bottom. I don't think they were ever a 'big' club until large amounts of was invested in the 90s
