It would be 13, there are only 12 at the moment.

I seem to recall there were 13 teams in the division because TDSOB withdrew from DN2 and the league committee wouldn't promote or relegate an extra team to level the sides.

There were 13 teams in D&N 2 for a couple of seasons which went up to 14 the last time Acklam went from Y1 to DN2.  There have been 13 in D&N 3 for the last 2 seasons after TDSOB re-entered, but Washington withdrew in September leaving 12 and having 2 teams with a bye most weeks.

I don't think they will - can't really see Whitby or Richmondshire going into Yorkshire 2 - I think transfers only happen at the top level of each league.

I think Whitby have been in Y2 in seasons gone by.

Whitby have never been in the Yorkshire leagues of any sort. We were given the choice of whether we would go in Yorks or D/N at the onset of leagues in 1987 because of our geographical location. We chose D/N because we thought it would be the better rugby and the shorter travelling distance. We have been very happy with the year since with the various ups and downs in fortunes and have made many good friends and relationships which we would like to keep. The Yorks leagues are just as much a mystery to us as they are to you.

My mistake "passed it", I bow to your local knowledge. Still doesn't get away from the fact that there may be a level transfer in Y2 if Acklam come back to D&N2. Whitby being a Yorkshire CB club may be in the mix.

It is looking a possibility Harry H but I cannot say the lads would look forward to it. After having a good season this year they would be looking to pushing on next year. 240 ml round trips to south yorks in Jan!!! Dread the thought! But what will be will be.

Level transfers cannot happen at Level 8 or below - it's in the regulations.  Looking at the regulations (I've copied them below) it looks very much like 3 teams will be relegated from D&N 2 (in fact could it even be 4 depending on play-off results? (assuming there are no new teams coming in there is room for 2 more teams in D&N 3))- see the note which I have highlighted.

"at Levels 4 and below (subject to Regulation 13.2.6(e)), where one
League supports one League, the top two Clubs from the lower
League at the end of the Season shall be promoted to the higher
League (or Level); "

"e) at Level 8 and below Level Transfer Regulations do not apply and
all clubs shall compete in leagues on a geographical/Divisional/
Constituent Body basis in accordance with Regulation 13.2.4(b)(v).
Relegation at Level 7 will be applied accordingly;

(f) at Levels 8 and below, after promotion has taken place in accordance
with Regulations 13.2.6(a) to (e) inclusive above, and relegation from
Level 7 has been applied on a geographical/ Divisional/Constituent
Body basis the requisite number of Clubs or teams shall be relegated
at the end of the Season so that in the following season there are
in all Leagues at Level 8 and below the same number of Clubs or
teams as in the Season or such other number of Clubs or teams as
the Committee may decide;

Note: In leagues at Level 8 and below it is impossible to determine
how many Clubs are to be relegated from any particular League until
relegation has been applied from Level 7 on a geographical basis and
the results of the play off matches are known. Both factors will have
an effect on the number of clubs to be relegated from each league at
Level 8 and below.

Cheers Stu, I'm sure Blyth will be delighted with that.

I suppose if we end up with more than 42 teams in D&N we would see the return of D&N 4 or possibly D&N 3N and D&N 3S.

Maybe one of Richmondshire, Darlo or Whitby will be invited to move over to Y2. It would be a bit unfair on Blyth to be relegated having fought so hard to stay in the league. Not sure if Acklam have an automatic right to move back to D&N so the best result might be for them to move to Y2.

It would be nonsensical for Acklam to move back to DN leagues, considering they will already be overcrowded.
