15 Teams in DN2 next season?
« on: April 30, 2017, 11:22:48 AM »
The ups and downs are now finished so any news on whether there will be 15 in the division next season?

Currently it's;

Acklam, Ashington, Bishop, Blyth, Darlo, Hartlepool, Newton Aycliffe, North Shields, Richmond, Rock, Ryton,  Sedgefield, Sunderland, Whitby, Winlaton

As I said in DN1 thread - The answer for me would be to extend DN3, relegate 3 from DN1 and 4 from DN2 stops the level transfer nonsense that seems to upset everyone every season.. At this level does it really matter what league your in anyway, as long as you can compete and the travelling is reasonable and fair?

Durham\Northumberland federation with teams in  DN3 at the start of a season divided into 2 smaller leagues based on geography  benefiting  from less traveling and less pressure to put out a team every week during the season

With 15 teams - that's an extra 4 league Saturdays (28 games and 2 bye weeks each) can't see that happening, with cups and any prolonged bad weather and we'll be playing well into May.  Unless they go against RFU regulations, there will be a level transfer from D&N 1 to Yorkshire 1 and Blyth will be relegated to D&N 3 which will be back to 13 teams like last season (unless Washington want to come back in).

There appears to be a suggestion on the Yorkshire forum that the 3rd bottom team in DN2 might consider moving to Yorks2 rather than dropping down to DN3. Given that the team is Blyth it seems that the poster is as confused geographically as they are of the RFU rules relating to level transfers below level 7.

Maybe they think it's Blyth in Nottinghamshire.

Ha ha ha, love it. A little bit of knowledge can take you a long way... BUT only if you actually have it 😂😉

As a Blyth RFC member I can tell you all now that there is no we, as a club what to drop down to DN3 or indeed feel that would be fair. After a really tough season of having to field over 60 players in the first team due to unavailability, we rallied after Christmas and worked hard to avoid the (official) drop.

All this nonsense about transferring teams from Yorkshire leagues is a load of crap! the leagues are called 'Durham and Northumberland' for a start.

There is no 'official' number of teams relegated each season, only the number promoted is set (at 2 when 1 league feeds 1 league, and 1 plus a play-off between 2nd place teams when 2 leagues feed 1). The number relegated could be anything from 0 to 4, it is just usually 2.

The regulations say:

"Note: In leagues at Level 8 and below it is impossible to determine how many Clubs are to be relegated from any particular League until relegation has been applied from Level 7 on a geographical basis and the results of the play off matches are known. Both factors will have an effect on the number of clubs to be relegated from each league at Level 8 and below."

Thanks for the clarification Stuartdm.

That is an absolute killer for Blyth in that case. The relegation dogfight really galvanised the players. I think we proved we could mix it with anyone in the league when we had a decent turn out. All clubs go through a similar phase now and then, its awful.

However, getting related now after putting in a lot of graft will be a kick in the balls. Oh well, onwards and upwards.

Does anyone know when a decision will be reached?

Great. That means Acklam have a space in DN3.

No need for Blyth to move down.
