Player recruitment
« on: May 07, 2017, 09:59:21 AM »
Following on from some comments made after the Bishop v Vulcan cup final  ,which for anyone there was a great advert  for DN2  ,being sandwiched between two clubs that have excellent youth set ups we are never going to have the luxury of one of our own ,but what we can offer is league rugby at a standard that can help develop young players.Down the hill if your not in the 1st or 2nd team you don't get competitive rugby at a level to develope fully young talent it's taken a couple of seasons but the penny is beginning to drop .At Winlaton we realised availability of players had become a massive problem,so we signed a lot of lads that were never going to be available most of the time but who we knew were talented from my days being involved in another clubs set up ,these lads are able to go off to work Uni or whatever and when available we can drop them into the senior squad ,always keeping in mind the lads that turn out week in week out .This season like most clubs we went through a bad patch but slowly the lads returned and by the end of the season we had a lot of Development players signed up, a good number but not all played in the 20 odd man squad against Bishop .Now that these lads know how much better it is for their development to play in a structured league am sure you will see more of them next season
