Northern Divison v All Blacks 1979

Something to cheer us up seeing as England have been whitewashed this weekend.

The North of England side beat New Zealand at Otley in 1979!

Jeez that seems like yesterday. I was only in my second year of senior school and remember it being a really big deal at the time. They were the good old days when touring sides went right around the UK and played around 20 games over the winter including the internationals. Sadly, tours like that are a thing of the past these days.

I remember the Wallabies grand slam tour of 1984 being a classic as well... especially with good old Bill McLaren's commentary. Back in those days Australia had a strong pack - can you believe it - and shunted the Wales pack back over their line for a pushover try at the old Cardiff Arms Park. Vintage!!!

I was only down there in October. Charming little market town - even when its chucking it down. Who cares when the rugbys good though  :P
