Yes or No for TMO
« on: November 10, 2014, 03:23:54 PM »
Can someone please offer a logical explanation as to why Nigel Owens (widely touted as the best rugby referee in the world) failed to use the TMO for that NZ try that should never have counted?

Loss of control / double movement - call it what you want - but it was NOT a try. I wonder if he realised that he'd cocked up because loads of decisions went upstairs after that. Such incidents can often swing a game and they scored a dodgy try against us in the summer tour that featured a blatant forward pass leading to the try that won the first test.

I've said it before, I'll say it again... If thats what the best team in the world need to do to beat us then best of luck to them. I just hope we can play at 100% for the full 80 minutes the next time we play them. If we can field our strongest squad and play to our potential we may just have a repeat of the 2012 game.

And before anyone jumps on me from a height, I am a great advocate of referees (from the very top level down to ours) and usually have nothing short of the greatest of respect for them.

Nigel Owens  ;)

No I agree, I personally get sick of the TMO being brought in for every bloody decision but that's just me...

In regards to Saturday it was disappointing that it was given as a try  but hopefully it will only help our lads want to beat them more in the RWC Final next autumn!

I've since heard that Nigel has been subjected to racist and homophobic abuse at the very same game. No place for that in our fair game.

That's disgraceful if true, Neil.

I know it's muddy down there, but surely the internet made it's way to Seaham ?

Neil, I was at the game with Scotty, that little Mackem Micky Wharton and my good lady wife. We heard nothing of that type towards the referee!

He did have one of his very rare average games but England were pretty pants!

Probably couldn't hear owt above Micky's whinging ha ha ha. Only kidding, I like him really  ;) :D

I think it was via social media to be honest mate (Twitter). The lad has been brought to account and apologised in person. Being the gentleman and class act that he is, Nigel Owens has graciously received the apology and shook hands with the daft 18 year old to put an end to the matter. Doubt many would have been charitable enough to have let someone off so lightly after being hit with a homophobic/racist double whammy. I suppose it was his way of rising above the situation and putting it down with a touch of class.
